St. Paul’s Hires New Director of Music

I am very pleased to announce St. Paul’s has hired Laura McCall to serve as our Director of Music.  I am grateful to Kitty Quillin, Scott Reed, and Wanda Rector for serving on our discernment committee and to members of the choir who participated in the interview process with Laura and other candidates.  She impressed us with her background, ability, and personal warmth.  We believe she will be a great addition to our parish family and is the perfect fit for us at this juncture in our parish’s life and music ministry.  Laura’s first Sunday with us will be August 2.

Here is a brief bio to introduce Laura to you:

Laura McCall is a voice educator and member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.  Born and raised in the Finger Lakes region of New York, Laura has served as a soprano soloist and section leader in Episcopal and Anglican churches since the age of 17, developing a lifelong passion for the rich musical traditions of Anglican worship.

Throughout her career, Laura has held positions with parishes including St. Philip’s in the Hills (Tucson, Arizona), St. Andrew’s (Tucson, Arizona), St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (Syracuse, New York), St. James’ Episcopal Church (Skaneateles, New York), and All Saints Anglican Church (Raleigh, North Carolina).  Her work has included leading worship through solo and choral singing across a broad range of liturgical repertoire.

An accomplished ensemble musician, Laura has performed professionally with organizations including Syracuse Opera, MasterWorks Chorale of CNY, and Tucson Chamber Artists.  She will join the Virginia Symphony Orchestra Chorus for the 2026–2027 season, continuing her commitment to artistic excellence in choral performance.

In addition to her performing career, Laura also worked as an editorial assistant in the Sacred Choral Department at Alfred Music, where she worked alongside composer Sheldon Curry.  This experience further deepened her appreciation for choral literature and the collaborative process behind sacred music.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Science in Vocal Performance from Roberts Wesleyan University, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Ithaca College, and a Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy from Syracuse University.  Her diverse background in performance, pedagogy, and sacred music informs her work as both a performer and educator, bringing artistry, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of the church’s choral tradition to every musical setting.
